
Mitchell McCarthy is an arranger, orchestrator, composer, and conductor whose work spans the concert hall, recording studio, and stage.
Over the past fifteen years, he has written arrangements for broadcast and live performances featuring acclaimed artists including Judy Collins, Patti LaBelle, Dionne Warwick, Vanessa Williams, Idina Menzel, Cynthia Erivo, Joan Osborne, Juanes, and many others. His symphonic work has also been performed at the Hollywood Bowl by Kristin Chenoweth with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
As an orchestrator and conductor, Mitchell has led recording sessions at some of the world’s most renowned studios, including Abbey Road, Power Station, The Cutting Room, and The Bunker. Recent work includes string and horn arrangements for Earthquake Lights, Kendra Morris, and The Jack Moves.
Mitchell’s original compositions have been performed throughout the United States and Europe, with premieres at Queen Elisabeth Hall in Antwerp, the Palais des Beaux- Arts in Brussels, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Lincoln Center in New York City, Roulette Intermedium in Brooklyn, and at the New World Center in Miami Beach.
His stage work includes numerous productions with the American Pops Orchestra, Little Orchestra Society, Public Theater, 92nd Street Y, and New York TheatreWorkshop.
One career highlight was his collaboration with the early creative team behind Hadestown, transcribing and editing Anaïs Mitchell’s original voice memos for what would become a Tony and Grammy Award-winning musical.
